An EMS is an element management system, which could be analagous to a VNF-Manager in that the VNFs are "elements", however in my experience, and EMS is generally something like a Operations Support System (OSS)/ Business Support System(BSS) type system or something incorporated with a Network Management System (NMS) that does inventory, provisioning and life cycle management.

The difference being, that when i think of EMS, i think of a system that is watching all elements within a network (Hardware, Software, Network, switches, etc, etc), whereas a VNF-Manager would only be managing the VNF's within the VNFi/NFVi (Virtual Network Function Infrastructure, Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure).

Hope that helps, Daniel
